1. Don't design your website for your needs, design it around your customers
needs.
Think about this when designing
your site:
Solving your customer's problems is the
only reason your web site exists.
- Is your web site solving any problems
your customers might have.
- Is the navigation of the web site easy
to maneuver.
- Are you designing your site to give your
customer/potential clients the tools needed to do business with your
company.
Remember:
- Your customers want/need
information
- Your customers want/need
to make a purchase.
- Your customers want/need
to communicate with you without picking up their phone.
2. Failure to successfully
navigate your web site.
- Do they know where they are.
- Do they know where they've been.
- Do they no where to go next.
- Can they easily get back to the home
page.
3. Too much material
on one page.
-
Can your customer see what's
important for them and your company in a few seconds.
-
Can your customer see what
direction they should head within seconds of viewing your home page.
Four seconds have now
passed since you read line #1.
If they haven't found
what their looking for by now, REDESIGN!!!!
If they haven't found what there looking for in 20-30 sec., ...You lost Business!!!
Ok, we'll
assume they
found the page that has what their looking for:
- Did they find the
answer/solution in the first few lines of content on that page yes/no.
- Scrolling - have they
found it yet, yes/no.
- Scrolling
- Scrolling - Ok, maybe
your
keeping them interested...
- Scrolling - their Getting
tired...minds are starting to wander.
- Scrolling - To much of
the same thing...
- Scrolling -
- Scrolling -
- Scrolling - Now their
trying to remember what they where looking for.
- There is no 10, you lost
them, Their Gone, History.... You lost Business!!!
Seriously folks, you will loose them. Simple = good navigation!
A clean and professional design = trust. "they look like they know what
their doing"
This = business for you!!!
4.
Misusing Flash.
- Your watching the flash introduction,
- Still Watching the flash introduction,
- Still Watching the flash introduction,
- Still Watching the flash introduction,
- Still Watching the flash introduction,....Ok, enough
said...You lost business!!!
6.
You saved money on your web site. Was that the right thing to do?
examples
of what not to waste your money on...

Seen enough, unfortunately
for these companies, they NOW could probably use the money they spent on
these sites from the lack of business they brought in!!
It's so important you understand your site
is representing your business and who you are on the internet. Sites are
looking better every day and chances are your competitor has a
professionally designed website your going to have to compete with.
Ask yourself, Who exactly are you
building your website for???
To sum up "Consider
This", If you don't hire WebTech to build your website, please hire someone
that knows what they are doing. When you pick up the phone and start talking
to web designers, ask questions, look at there work, talk to there clients.
Do they know anything about marketing your product/services online, and
possibly the most important thing once you've established they can design a
website,... do they understand what your customers/clients need your website
to provide them in order to do business with you!!! This is where 90% of all
website fail.
It's going to cost you good money to have a good
design company design your website. It takes time to create a design that
will work for you, it's not all about graphics. It takes time to research
your nitch in the internet market and design your website to succeed.
Today's internet browsers are
savvy to Cookie Cuter and do-it-your-self websites. This is telling them you
and your company do things half way. The consumers on the internet today
will not waste another second on your site let alone purchase something from
you hoping you will back your products & services.
Today's web designer needs to
know quite a bit more than how to design graphics in Adobe Photoshop, and
throw it together in Dreamweaver.
A good web
designer is an artist, internet marketing expert, understands the
demographics of the internet and the habits of the internet consumer.
